Description

A BSA Martini Cadet Rifle, chambered in .32-20 caliber, constructed from blued steel and featuring a dark stained wooden stock. This rifle operates with a falling block action, engaged by an underlever. The left side of the receiver is marked “MADE BY THE BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO. LTD.” with the “BSA” trade mark, depicted as a pyramid of rifles. The right side of the receiver displays the serial number “51781”, the letter “Q”, and “COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA 8345”. At the barrel/receiver junction, the caliber marking “32.20” is present, alongside a leaping animal motif, likely a kangaroo, and British proof marks including “(crown)P” and “(crown)S”, plus “610 12-120”. The adjustable rear sight is marked with patent dates “PAT. 122651-05” and “P.PAT. 94-10”, referencing 1905 and 1910 patents. The right buttstock bears a circular stamp reading “COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA”, “VICTORIA”, and “MIL FORCES” (Military Forces), accompanied by an inventory number “A 4363”.

Condition report:

The rifle is in well-used condition, consistent with its age and military service. The wooden stock exhibits numerous scratches and dents throughout. The blued finish on the metal components is worn, showing significant patination and some areas of surface corrosion, particularly evident on the steel buttplate.
