Gun Collectors Dream Auction #79 Weapons of War
Lot 84:
Sold for: $1,050
Description
An antique U.S. Springfield Model 1855 Percussion Pistol Carbine. This military percussion pistol, likely from the mid-19th century, features a dark wood stock, a steel barrel and lock plate, and brass components including the trigger guard, a globular butt cap, and a single barrel band. The lock plate is visibly marked “U.S.”, “SPRINGFIELD”, and dated “1856”, beneath an engraved eagle emblem. Additional markings on the barrel near the breech include the date “1855” and inspector’s marks “V.P.”. A rolled, paper-like material is visible within the internal priming mechanism, indicating a Maynard tape primer system.
Condition report:
The pistol exhibits moderate wear consistent with age and use. There is surface pitting present on the metal parts, and the wood stock shows minor stress cracks, dings, and handling marks. The pistol appears largely complete and intact.
