J. Stevens Springfield Model 86 Bolt Action .22 Rifle
Sold for: $110
Description
A J. Stevens Springfield Model 86 bolt-action rimfire rifle, likely dating to the mid-20th century, chambered for .22 Short, Long or Long Rifle ammunition. The rifle is constructed with a varnished wooden stock and forearm, paired with blued steel barrel, receiver, and action components. The barrel is clearly marked “SPRINGFIELD U.S. STEVENS ARMS COMPANY CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS. U.S.A. MODEL 86” and “.22 SHORT, LONG OR LONG RIFLE.” The receiver bears “PATENT PENDING” and an encircled “4B” mark. Faint, hand-scratched text, possibly reading “W. MARES WESTERNFIELD,” is also present on the receiver.
Condition report:
The rifle displays extensive signs of age and use. Metal parts show significant bluing loss, surface pitting, and minor rust. The wooden stock exhibits numerous scratches, dings, and areas of finish wear, particularly on the buttstock. Overall fair to good condition.
