Lot 1217:
An Antique Late 19th Century Rifle Front Sight Cover, Attributed to Dickson, Beverly, Mass.
Sold for: $20
Description
This item is one (1) tubular metal component, identified by accompanying notes as an antique rifle front sight cover. It features a flattened rectangular extension and a knurled cap at one end. Constructed from a dark metal, likely heavily patinated brass or bronze with visible verdigris, or blued steel, its utilitarian design suggests an industrial or mechanical context. The accompanying notes suggest a ‘LATE 1800’S’ dating and a potential association with ‘DICKSON BEVERLY, MASS.’
Condition report:
Good antique condition, consistent with age and use. Displays significant surface wear, scratches, grime, and discoloration. Verdigris is visible, suggesting a brass or bronze composition, though a blued steel finish cannot be entirely ruled out.
