Description

An antique percussion revolver featuring an open frame and an octagonal barrel, constructed primarily of steel with brass furniture and dark wood grips. The design is consistent with mid-19th century pocket models, potentially related to the 1862 Cooper Double Action type, as suggested by the consignor. The steel components, including the barrel, cylinder, and frame, exhibit heavy surface deterioration and deep oxidation. The trigger guard and grip straps are brass. The barrel is stamped with patent dates: PAT. JAN 7. 1851 MAR 25. 1854 SEP 4. 1860. Partially obscured location text, HARTFORD PHILA. PA., is also visible on the barrel. The serial number 2885 is clearly stamped on the butt, heel, and backstrap of the brass grip assembly. Only 15,000 made in the 1860’s.

Condition report:

The firearm is in antique condition, exhibiting heavy usage and significant age-related surface deterioration. The steel components show extensive pitting, heavy wear, and a deep, oxidized patina throughout. The brass components are tarnished but retain their color. Mechanical function is untested and cannot be guaranteed. The wood grips show handling marks and minor losses consistent with age.
