Gun Collectors Dream Auction #81 January 31st & Feb 1st
Lot 1516:
Description
A collection of 134 pieces of ammunition and empty brass casings, identified by the consignor as .30-06 Springfield Ackley Improved. This lot includes both empty brass casings and loaded cartridges, consistent with the user-provided description that some items are primed. The lot is packaged across multiple sections of aged, divided cardboard boxes. The brass cases exhibit varying degrees of tarnish and patina. Visible headstamps on the base of the cartridges include UNC 43, LC 43, and REM-UMC, indicating production by the United States Cartridge Company, Lake City Ordnance Plant, and Remington-UMC, respectively, suggesting wartime or immediate post-war manufacture of the parent brass. The Ackley Improved designation indicates that the cases have been fire-formed or reformed to a sharper shoulder angle for increased powder capacity. The lot contains a mix of full cartridges and longer, inert or empty brass casings lying horizontally across the cells. Packaging features handwritten markings such as Grade 1.
Measurements: Not applicable.
Condition report:
The firearm is in heavily used, fair cosmetic condition, showing significant signs of age and poor storage. The metal surfaces exhibit a dark, heavily patinaed finish with extensive surface pitting throughout the barrel and receiver. The barrel shows heavy wear and large, visible patches of white, scrubbed residue or paint transfer, particularly along the sides. The receiver finish is worn down to a mottled gray/silver color. The wooden furniture shows heavy use consistent with a working firearm, including numerous scratches, dents, and dings, but appears structurally sound. The hard rubber buttplate is intact. The action appears to function correctly, cocking and releasing the hammer, but we have not function-tested this firearm using live ammunition. The bore condition is unknown due to lack of specialized inspection tools. It is the buyer\'s responsibility to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal firearms laws.
