Gun Collectors Dream Auction #81 January 31st & Feb 1st
Lot 215:
Sold for: $70
Description
A collection of twelve individual pistol grip panels, forming six complete pairs, designed primarily for the Colt 1911 Government or Commander model firearms. The lot exhibits significant variation in material and style, consistent with aftermarket and custom modifications. Materials include hard rubber or composite, various finished woods (such as cocobolo or rosewood style laminates, and lighter tan wood), and modern polymers. Several pairs feature the classic Double Diamond checkering pattern, a style commonly associated with Pachmayr and other custom manufacturers. One pair of heavily worn, dark checkered grips shows remnants of white painted text, possibly reading "A8T" or "1ST" on the left panel. A distinct pair features a bright red substrate overlaid with decorative bright metal plates, which are scrolled and centered with a medallion depicting a steer or Longhorn head motif. Another pair is constructed from a dark gray and black marbled polymer. All panels are configured for standard 1911 grip screw placement.
Condition: Condition ranges widely across the lot. The heavily checkered dark panels show significant wear, chipping, and surface oxidation consistent with extensive use or military surplus. The wooden panels show varying degrees of handling wear, minor dings, and finish loss. The custom metal-plated pair and the marbled polymer pair are in very good to excellent condition with minimal visible wear.
