Description

This is a vintage commercial fixed-blade hunting or utility knife, manufactured in or associated with Sandusky, Ohio, as indicated by the ricasso stamp. The knife features a robust drop-point steel blade, typical of mid-20th century utility designs. The handle is of stacked construction, consisting of alternating black and dark red fiber spacers surrounding a central section of bright orange synthetic material (likely plastic or resin). The handle is finished with a polished alloy pommel cap and a simple steel finger guard. The ricasso is clearly stamped "SANDUSKY, O". The knife is accompanied by its original brown leather sheath, which is riveted and stitched, and includes a retention strap secured by a brass snap button.
Condition: The overall condition is fair to poor, consistent with heavy field use and age. The steel blade exhibits substantial pitting, surface rust, and significant wear to the original finish, though the edge appears intact but dull. The handle materials show minor scratching and darkening, but the synthetic orange section remains largely intact. The alloy pommel cap shows scratching and minor dings. The accompanying brown leather sheath is heavily worn, scuffed, dried, and darkened from use, with verdigris visible around the brass snap button and general loss of structural integrity due to age.
