Gun Collectors Dream Auction #81 January 31st & Feb 1st
Lot 335:
Sold for: $80
Description
This lot consists of one fixed-blade hunting knife manufactured by Craftsman, accompanied by its original leather sheath. The knife features a large, heavy clip-point blade, often referred to as a Bowie style, designed for utility and hunting applications. The ricasso is clearly stamped with the manufacturer’s mark, reading CRAFTSMAN U.S.A. The handle is constructed of a textured material simulating stag horn, featuring pronounced texturing and secured by a brass finger guard and a brass butt cap. The accompanying sheath is dark brown leather, displaying a quilted or diamond-stitched pattern across the body, and utilizes a retention strap secured by a brass snap button. This style of knife is consistent with vintage utility and hunting knives produced in the mid-20th century.
Condition: The knife is in heavily used, vintage condition, showing substantial signs of age and field use. The steel blade exhibits heavy scratching, surface abrasions, darkening, and deep patina. The edge appears dull and will require professional sharpening. The brass finger guard and butt cap show significant tarnish and minor surface abrasions. The stag-simulated handle material is intact but shows wear and discoloration consistent with handling. The leather sheath is dry, scuffed, and heavily worn, though the stitching remains largely intact. The brass snap on the retention strap functions correctly.
