Description

A single J.C. Higgins branded bolt-action single-shot sporting rifle chambered for .22 long rifle ammunition. The rifle features a blued steel barrel and receiver, and is fitted with a polished hardwood stock. The action is a simple bolt design, typical of budget sporting rifles of the mid-20th century, often manufactured by companies like Marlin or Cooey for Sears Roebuck & Co. Markings visible on the barrel/receiver include the caliber designation "cal. 22 long rifle" and the serial number 357872. The receiver also features a prominent circular logo/proof mark consistent with the J.C. Higgins brand. Sighting system includes a fixed front blade sight and an adjustable open rear sight mounted on the barrel. No magazine is present as this is a single-shot design.BBL: Not measuredOAL: Not measured
Condition: The metal components retain a good percentage of the original glossy blued finish, estimated at 80-85%, showing minor handling marks, light scratches, and thinning consistent with age and use, particularly around the muzzle and bolt handle. The bore appears bright with visible rifling, though we have not inspected it with a borescope. The polished hardwood stock shows moderate cosmetic wear, including numerous scratches, dings, and finish thinning, especially noticeable on the butt and forend. The butt of the stock is missing its original buttplate. The bolt action appears to cycle and the trigger mechanism appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm with live ammunition. It is the buyer’s responsibility to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal firearms laws.
