Gun Collectors Dream Auction #81 January 31st & Feb 1st
Lot 561:
Sold for: $180
Description
This is a Connecticut Valley Arms, Inc. (CVA) "Mountain" model percussion muzzleloading rifle, chambered in .50 caliber. The rifle is a modern reproduction of a traditional American long rifle style, manufactured in Spain. The rifle features a heavy octagonal barrel finished in a dark brown/plum patina, fitted with fixed iron sights including a brass blade front sight and a dovetailed rear sight. The lockplate is dark metal with minimal decorative engraving and utilizes a percussion cap ignition system. The rifle is equipped with double set triggers for precise shooting. The stock is constructed of a light-colored wood, likely maple or beech, featuring a bright, glossy finish and a crescent-shaped blued steel buttplate. The buttstock incorporates a functional brass patch box cover secured by screws. The wooden ramrod, tipped with brass, is seated beneath the barrel. Visible markings on the barrel include: Connecticut Valley Arms Inc. Spain MOUNTAIN .50 Cal. Black Powder Only. The visible serial number near the breech is 36 378751. This firearm is classified as an Antique Replica Black Powder Muzzleloader.
Condition: The overall condition is good, consistent with a used black powder firearm. The octagonal barrel retains a dark brown/plum patina, showing surface discoloration, minor handling marks, and light surface oxidation typical of age and use, particularly along the flats. The stock is sound with a bright, glossy finish, showing minor dings and scratches, particularly around the lockplate area and butt. The brass furniture (patch box cover and front sight) shows light tarnish and patina. The blued steel buttplate shows wear and thinning of the finish. The lock mechanism appears to function correctly, holding securely at half and full cock, and the double set triggers engage. The bore condition is unknown without specialized inspection but appears generally clean at the muzzle. We have not function-tested this firearm with live powder or caps. It is the buyer’s responsibility to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal firearms laws.
