Gun Collectors Dream Auction #81 January 31st & Feb 1st
Lot 591:
Sold for: $400
Description
A single Stevens Model 87A semi-automatic rimfire rifle manufactured by Savage Arms Corporation. This rifle is designed to handle .22 Short, .22 Long, or .22 Long Rifle cartridges, fed via a tubular under-barrel magazine. The rifle operates as a semi-automatic only when chambered with .22 Long Rifle ammunition; otherwise, it functions as a straight-pull repeater, selectable via the A/S switch on the receiver. The rifle features a blued finish, a fixed ramped front sight, and an adjustable leaf rear sight. The bolt utilizes a knurled cocking piece/bolt knob. The stock is a one-piece design made of glossy, marbled brown polymer (likely Tenite).Visible markings on the barrel/receiver include the manufacturer and model designation: STEVENS SAVAGE ARMS CORPORATION CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS. U.S.A. MODEL 87A. Caliber information is marked: .22 SHORT, .22 LONG, OR .22 LONG RIFLE. LONG RIFLE ONLY AS AUTOMATIC. Patent numbers transcribed include 2094577, 2224763, 2229093, 2225885, and 2275176.
Condition: The metal components retain a thinning blued finish, showing significant wear, patina, and light surface scratching throughout the barrel and receiver. The trigger guard retains a heavily flaking painted black finish, with large areas of bare metal visible. The bore condition is undetermined but appears consistent with a used rimfire rifle of this vintage. The polymer stock exhibits numerous scratches, scuffs, and areas of finish abrasion, particularly on the buttstock, but remains structurally sound with intact molded checkering on the pistol grip. The action appears to function correctly when cycled manually, and the selector switch operates. We have not function-tested this firearm. It is the buyer’s responsibility to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal firearms laws.
