Gun Collectors Dream Auction #81 January 31st & Feb 1st
Lot 65:
Sold for: $180
Description
A US World War II era fighting knife, commonly known as the Cattaraugus 225Q. This model was widely issued during WWII as a heavy utility and combat knife. The knife features a heavy clip-point steel blade designed for utility and combat. The handle is constructed of stacked leather washers fitted between a steel guard and a heavy steel pommel cap. The ricasso is clearly marked with the manufacturer and model designation: Cattaraugus over 225 Q. The lot includes the original style dark brown/black leather sheath, which is stitched and riveted.
Condition: The knife is in fair to good condition, reflecting extensive field use and age. The steel blade exhibits significant wear, scratching, and moderate pitting across the surface, lacking any original polished or blued finish. The clip point remains intact but shows evidence of sharpening and use. The stacked leather washer handle is severely dried, cracked, and dark brown/black from age and handling, but remains structurally sound. The steel guard and pommel cap show heavy oxidation and patina. The accompanying leather sheath is heavily worn, dry, cracked, and scuffed, with stitching and rivets intact but showing severe material degradation. It is the buyer’s responsibility to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal firearms laws.
