Description

A classic J. Stevens Arms & Tool Co. Model 414 Armory Rifle, a single-shot falling block action firearm designed for precision target practice and marksmanship training, popular among high school and military rifle teams in the early 20th century. The rifle is chambered for the common rimfire cartridge, .22 Long Rifle (.22-L.R.). Construction features a heavy blued steel barrel mated to a robust case-hardened steel receiver. The barrel is marked with the manufacturer’s early designation: “J. STEVENS ARMS & TOOL Co., CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS. U.S.A.” The caliber stamp “22-L.R.” is visible near the breech. The receiver is marked with the trade mark “STEVENS REG. U.S. PAT. OFF.” The underside of the receiver plate confirms the model number “414” alongside the serial number “O 71513.” The rifle is fitted with its original wooden stock and forend, featuring a black ribbed butt plate and factory sling swivel attachments on both the buttstock and the barrel band. Sighting equipment includes a fixed front sight post and a large, adjustable tang-mounted peep sight, ideal for target shooting. The “Arms & Tool Co.” marking suggests manufacture prior to 1915.
