Description

A highly customized sporting rifle built upon an original Deutsche Waffen-und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) Berlin Mauser Modelo Argentino 1909 action. The receiver is clearly marked “MAUSER MODELO ARGENTINO 1909.” and “DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN BERLIN.” The visible serial number/proof mark on the receiver ring is K 0944. The rifle features a heavy, highly polished custom wooden stock, likely high-grade walnut, characterized by a Monte Carlo cheekpiece, extensive fine checkering on the forend and pistol grip, and decorative spacers. The buttstock is fitted with a black rubber recoil pad marked “SELLERS INC. WAUKEE, ILLS.” and bearing patent information referencing “REMINGTON ARMS CO INC. / ILION N.Y.” The action is a classic Mauser 98-style bolt action, and the metal components feature a deep blued finish with bright polished bolt and trigger guard assembly. The rifle is currently fitted with a modern Cabela’s scope, marked 3-12 x 40 mm, secured by scope rings to a black base mounted directly to the receiver. Based on accompanying identification tags, the rifle has been rebarreled and is chambered in a .308 Norma variant, specified variously on the tags as “.308 Norma Match” or “.308 Norma Mag.” The barrel length is not specified. This piece represents a high-quality example of post-war custom gunsmithing utilizing a strong, reliable military action.
