Gun Collectors Dream Auction #82 February 21st & 22nd
Lot 1440:
Sold for: $350
Description
A heavy antique side-by-side double-barreled long gun, identified as utilizing the Pinfire cartridge system based on construction and collector keywords. This shotgun features a dark brown wooden stock and iron or steel barrels and action. The design incorporates external twin hammers and a double-trigger mechanism protected by a scrolling trigger guard. The lock plates are unmarked, suggesting potential manufacture in Belgium or another continental European center known for producing unbranded Pinfire arms during the mid-to-late 19th century. The barrels measure 30.5 inches in length. Visible markings on the underside of the barrel flats near the breech include the serial number 12044 stamped on the central rib, the numerical stamp 46.8, and several heavily worn, illegible proof marks, including stylized letters and an arrow symbol. The buttstock features a metal buttplate secured by a single screw. This item is classified as an antique firearm and may be subject to specific local, state, or federal regulations regarding transfer and ownership.
