Description

A vintage Western Field Model 59 rimfire rifle, sold under the Montgomery Ward trade name. This model is recognized by collectors as being manufactured by Savage/Stevens, utilizing their popular semi-automatic design. The rifle features a self-loading action chambered for the .22 Long Rifle cartridge. Construction consists of blued steel hardware paired with a full wooden stock. The rifle is fed by a high-capacity under-barrel tube magazine, which is accessed via a knurled end cap near the muzzle. Sighting components include a fixed blade front sight and an adjustable rear sight mounted on the receiver. Key markings on the receiver identify the firearm as “Western Field” and “MODEL 59.” The barrel is clearly marked with the caliber and ammunition warning: “CAL. 22 LONG RIFLE SMOKELESS GREASED ONLY.” Further patent information is stamped on the receiver: “PATENT 2084517 OTHERS PENDING.” This patent was granted in 1937, suggesting a manufacturing date range from the late 1930s through the 1950s. The firearm includes a safety indicator marked “SAFE.” This firearm is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. No measurements are available.
