Gun Collectors Dream Auction #82 February 21st & 22nd
Lot 275:
Sold for: $40
Description
This lot features a pair of vintage mechanical balance beam scales manufactured by Redding-Hunter Inc. of Cortland, New York, U.S.A., specialized for precision powder and bullet measurement in firearms reloading. The scales represent two distinct early models produced by the company, each accompanied by its original cardboard box. Item 1 is the Redding Master Powder and Bullet Scale, Model #2. This scale features a heavy, dark reddish-brown cast metal base embossed “REDDING.” The beam is stainless steel or aluminum, marked for measurement from 50 to 500 grains. It utilizes a white plastic adjustment knob for zeroing. Item 2 is the Redding Powder and Bullet Scale, Model #1. This scale features a sage green cast metal base, also embossed “REDDING.” It employs a dual-beam system: the main beam is marked 50 to 350 grains, and a smaller upper beam is marked 0 to 5 grains, allowing for fine measurement adjustments. It includes a metal adjustment screw. Both scales include one corresponding aluminum powder pan. These tools are foundational pieces of mid-century precision reloading equipment. The beams function as integrated rulers with grain markings up to 500 (Model #2) and 355 (Model #1).
