Gun Collectors Dream Auction #82 February 21st & 22nd
Lot 537:
Sold for: $450
Description
A vintage American double-barrel shotgun manufactured by the Ithaca Gun Company of Ithaca, New York. This is a hammerless, break-action design featuring side-by-side barrels. The shotgun is chambered for 12 Gauge (12GA) shells, confirmed by the “12” marking on the water table, alongside the choke designation “F” (Full). The barrels are specified as 28 inches in length, constructed of blued steel, and marked on the top rib near the breech with “SMOKELESS POWDER STEEL” and “MADE IN U.S.A.”, indicating suitability for modern ammunition of the era. The receiver sideplates are clearly marked “ITHACA GUN Co. ITHACA N.Y.” The stock is full wood, likely walnut, featuring a checkered pistol grip and terminating in a black butt plate secured by two screws. The serial number 440238 is consistently stamped on both the water table of the receiver and the barrel lug, confirming matching components. The water table also bears the marking “PATENT APPLIED FOR.” Based on the serial number range, this firearm dates to approximately 1927-1928. This classic American field gun represents the standard sporting arms produced by Ithaca during the interwar period. No measurements are provided as no scale was present during inspection.
