Description

A classic American sporting rifle, the Remington Model 552 Speedmaster, chambered for .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle ammunition. This is a semi-automatic, tube-fed rifle known for its reliability and versatility. The rifle features highly attractive, high-gloss finished wood furniture, including a checkered pistol grip and forend. The metal components retain a deep blued finish. Markings on the receiver include “Remington ® Speedmaster ® MODEL 552” and the serial number A1597828. The barrel is marked “REMINGTON ARMS CO. INC. ILION, N.Y. MADE IN U.S.A. Remington ® .22 SHORT. LONG AND LONG RIFLE.” Visible proof marks include the circled “REP” stamp and the code “PA 38,” indicating a specific production date (likely 1967 or 1993, based on the Remington date code system). The rifle is fitted with its original open sights (adjustable rear sight and fixed front sight), which are currently positioned beneath a mounted tubular scope. The scope is secured by two rings and features windage and elevation adjustments, marked “WER 556” and “USA PAT’D.” The scope displays a duplex crosshair reticle. The butt plate is black rubber/plastic marked “Remington.” This rifle represents a desirable example of a long-running and popular Remington rimfire design.
