Gun Collectors Dream Auction #83 May 2nd & 3rd TWO DAYS - NO RESERVES - 1200 LOTS!
Lot 1008:
Description
This single Browning Superposed over/under shotgun is chambered for 12-gauge shells up to 2 3/4 inches. The firearm is equipped with blued steel barrels featuring a ventilated rib and a single front bead sight. The receiver displays attractive floral scroll engravings and houses a gold-plated trigger. The furniture consists of a checkered walnut stock and forearm with a high-gloss finish. A significant period modification is the installation of a Hydro-Coil recoil reduction system, which incorporates a telescoping buttstock and a specialized rubber buttpad marked HYDRO-COIL. Verbatim markings on the barrels include BROWNING ARMS COMPANY ST LOUIS Mo & MONTREAL P.Q., MADE IN BELGIUM, and SPECIAL STEEL-12 GA-SHELLS 2 3/4 along with PATENTS NO 2.203.378 – 2.233.86. The serial number 22166 S4 is clearly marked on the action flats, confirming a 1964 manufacture date. The underside of the receiver is marked with the Browning name and a portrait of John Browning. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The shotgun is in moderate condition, showing signs of regular use. The blued finish exhibits thinning on the high edges and the underside of the receiver. The walnut stock and forearm show scattered dings, scratches, and finish wear consistent with field use. There is visible black filler material along the upper wrist of the stock where it meets the receiver, likely related to the Hydro-Coil system installation. The bores appear bright and the action appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm.
