Description

This Zulu breech loading shotgun is a late 19th century civilian conversion of a French military musket utilizing the Tabatiere side hinged breechblock system. Chambered for 12 gauge shells, the firearm features a long smoothbore barrel and a percussion style hammer modified to strike a firing pin housed within the breechblock. The metal surfaces are finished in a dark aged patina with visible surface oxidation and light pitting across the barrel, receiver, and trigger guard. The one piece wood stock exhibits age appropriate wear including scattered dings, scratches, and a small crack at the tip of the forend. Key markings include the word ZULU engraved in stylized script on the top of the barrel, a circled G proof mark on the left side of the breech, and various small numerical stamps on the metal components. The shotgun is equipped with a simple bead front sight and a smooth metal buttplate. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.

Condition report:

The metal surfaces exhibit a dark brown patina with widespread surface oxidation and light pitting throughout. The bore is dark with visible pitting and heavy lead fouling. The side hinged breechblock action appears to function correctly, though we have not function tested this firearm. The wood stock remains in fair to good condition with numerous dings and scratches consistent with age and a small longitudinal crack at the forend tip. The buttplate and trigger guard show heavy oxidation and surface wear.
