Description
This Marlin Model 1894 is a classic lever action rifle chambered in .38-40 caliber, featuring a round barrel and a full length tubular magazine. The rifle is configured with a straight grip walnut stock and a matching walnut forend, ending in a traditional crescent shaped metal buttplate. Key markings include the model designation MODEL 1894 stamped on the upper tang and the serial number 114183 located on the underside of the receiver. The top of the receiver is prominently marked MARLIN SAFETY flanked by decorative symbols. Barrel markings specify the manufacturer as MARLIN FIRE-ARMS CO., NEW-HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. along with patent dates PATD OCT. 11. 1887 APRIL 2. 1889. AUG. 1. 1893, and the caliber 38-40 is stamped on the top of the barrel near the receiver. The firearm is equipped with a blade front sight and an adjustable buckhorn style rear sight. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The metal surfaces exhibit a heavy, dark weathered patina with widespread surface oxidation and areas of pitting, particularly notable on the receiver, magazine tube, and barrel. The walnut furniture shows significant signs of age and field use, including numerous scratches, small indentations, and a general darkening of the finish, though it appears free of major structural cracks. The bore was not inspected but likely reflects the weathered exterior condition. The lever action appears to function mechanically, though we have not function tested this firearm for cycling or safety.
