Description
This is a sporterized German military Mauser Model 98 bolt action rifle originally manufactured by J.P. Sauer and Sohn and chambered in 8mm Mauser. The rifle features a custom wood sporter stock with a Monte Carlo cheekpiece, a contrasting light wood forend tip, and a checkered plastic buttplate with a shield logo. It is equipped with a Lyman receiver peep sight and a ramped front sight. The metal surfaces retain a blued finish that shows thinning and areas of light oxidation. Key markings include the manufacturer code ce and the date 42 on the receiver ring, along with the serial number 9287 over a script l and German eagle-over-swastika proof marks on the left side of the receiver and barrel. The side rail is marked Mod. 98 in Gothic script. The bolt handle, floorplate, and trigger guard are all stamped with the matching serial number 9287. The receiver peep sight is marked REG. U.S. PAT. OFF. and the rifle is fitted with a green canvas and leather sling. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The blued finish shows thinning, edge wear, and areas of light surface oxidation, particularly on the barrel and bolt assembly. The custom wood stock has several visible repairs with pins near the receiver and wrist, and a small crack is present on the left side. The bore was not inspected. The action appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm. The checkered plastic buttplate and the canvas sling show wear consistent with use and age.
