Description
This J.C. Higgins Model 43 is a semi-automatic rimfire rifle chambered for .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle cartridges, designed as a versatile utility and small game firearm for the Sears, Roebuck and Co. product line. The rifle features a blued steel barrel and receiver with an under-barrel tubular magazine and a right-side charging handle. The furniture consists of a one-piece light wood stock with a smooth finish and a black plastic buttplate. Sighting is provided by a front post sight and an adjustable rear notch sight. Key markings on the barrel include the script J.C. Higgins followed by 22 CAL S.L. & L.R. MOD. 43, the store code 103.19810, and SEARS, ROEBUCK AND CO. The rifle is equipped with sling swivel studs on the underside of the stock and magazine tube. The action appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal components exhibit a blued finish that shows significant wear and neglect, with widespread surface oxidation, heavy rust, and pitting present along the entire length of the barrel and receiver. The bore condition was not observed. The wooden stock is in fair to good condition, showing minor handling marks, shallow scratches, and some finish wear consistent with age. The black plastic buttplate has a noticeable chip on the left side. The tubular magazine and sling hardware show surface rust matching the barrel\'s condition.
