Description
A collection of 5 vintage automatic fly fishing reels of varied manufacture and model. The group includes two Shakespeare Alpha 2827 reels featuring white and blue finishes. Also included are two Martin Mohawk reels marked Made in USA and Martin N.Y. Fishing Reel, consisting of one silver-toned Model 6 and one blue-finished Model 8-A. The Martin reels feature stamped text on the housing including patent numbers 2-175-258 and 2-301-732. The fifth item is a silver-toned Sportfisher 55 reel with a red circular logo. The reels are constructed primarily from aluminum alloys with steel and plastic components. One Shakespeare reel bears an adhesive inventory label numbered 13052.
Condition report:
The collection shows signs of age and field use consistent with vintage angling equipment. Physical characteristics include surface scratches, paint wear, and oxidation on metal levers and housings. One Shakespeare reel exhibits a yellowed translucent coating. The functional condition of the internal winding mechanisms has not been determined.
