Gun Collectors Dream Auction #83 May 2nd & 3rd TWO DAYS - NO RESERVES - 1200 LOTS!
Lot 1488:
Description
This Winchester Model 1885 single shot falling block rifle is chambered in an unknown caliber and configured as a project or parts gun. The firearm features a round barrel with a globe-style front sight, though the rear barrel sight is missing. The metal surfaces of the barrel and receiver exhibit advanced oxidation with heavy surface rust and pitting throughout. The wooden furniture appears to be a custom or modified replacement, characterized by a prominent thumb rest and a shaped pistol grip with a dull, worn finish. A rusted, checkered metal buttplate is attached to the stock. Key markings include the serial number 37206 visible on the lower metal tang; other manufacturer or caliber markings are not clearly legible due to the heavily degraded condition of the surface. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The overall condition is poor to fair. The metal surfaces are characterized by extensive surface rust and pitting, with very little original finish remaining. The bore has not been inspected but is likely pitted given the external condition. The action appears to move but has not been function-tested for safety or reliability. The wood furniture shows heavy wear, staining, and loss of finish. The rear barrel sight is missing.
