Description
This .54 caliber percussion muzzleloading rifle was manufactured by Investarm in Italy for Cabela’s Inc. as a reproduction of the traditional Hawken style plains rifle. The firearm is equipped with a heavy octagonal barrel featuring a blued finish and is fitted with a fixed blade front sight and an adjustable rear notch sight. The side-lock action is decorated with scroll engraving and displays a vibrant case-hardened finish. The rifle features a dark hardwood stock with a cheekpiece and is accented by brass furniture including a crescent buttplate, a circular patch box, a trigger guard, and a nose cap. Key markings include the importer designation Cabela’s, Inc. Sidney, N.E. and the serial number 407464. Barrel markings specify BLACK POWDER ONLY — MADE IN ITALY — and CAL .54 along with the manufacturer information BEFORE USING GUN-READ WARNINGS IN INSTRUCTION MANUAL AVAILABLE FROM INVESTARM SPA 25060 MARCHENO ITALY. The barrel also displays Italian proof marks including a PN under a star and a BF date code in a square. Included with the rifle is a wooden ramrod with brass tips and a fringed tan suede leather scabbard. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The rifle is in good overall condition with the blued finish on the barrel showing only minor handling marks and light surface wear. The case-hardened finish on the lock plate remains vibrant with clear, well-defined engraving. The hardwood stock is solid and displays some scattered dings and light scratches consistent with field use. The brass furniture has developed a natural, even patina throughout. The action appears to function correctly with a crisp hammer fall, though we have not function-tested this firearm. The bore was not inspected, but the exterior condition suggests a well-maintained piece. The included suede scabbard shows light wear and minor staining but remains supple.
