Description
This lot features a pair of metal canisters containing IMR 4198 smokeless powder, a propellant commonly utilized by reloaders for small to medium capacity rifle cartridges. Each red-painted metal canister is labeled with a net weight of 1 lb (454 g). The front of each canister displays the IMR logo and is marked IMR 4198 SMOKELESS POWDER along with DANGER! EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE and BEFORE USING SEE PRECAUTIONS ON BACK OF CAN. The reverse side of the canisters includes a Handloader’s Guide graphic and provides detailed safety and handling instructions, including KEEP AWAY FROM HEAT, SPARKS AND OPEN FLAME and STORE IN COOL, DRY PLACE. Verbatim manufacturer markings at the base of the reverse label identify the product as MANUFACTURED IN CANADA FOR IMR POWDER COMPANY PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. 12901. Both canisters are equipped with their original red-painted screw-top metal caps. Remnants of yellow price stickers from DISCOUNT CITY are present on the front of both canisters.
Condition report:
The metal canisters exhibit minor surface oxidation and light rust along the top and bottom rims and seams. The red lithographed finish remains largely intact with some scattered scuffs, light scratches, and shelf wear consistent with age. The screw-top metal caps are present and appear functional. The internal contents have not been verified for weight, consistency, or chemical stability; as with all vintage propellants, the powder should be inspected by a qualified professional before any potential use.
