Description
This lot features a boxed postcard collection and an assortment of metal items including belt buckles and Western-style decorative hardware. The postcard set is titled Long May She Wave: 100 Stars and Stripes Collectible Postcards, compiled by Kit and Linda Hinrichs. The set is housed in a box designed to resemble a hardcover book and contains cards featuring American flag memorabilia from the Stars and Stripes Collection.
The metal collection includes three belt buckles: a circular Chicago Technical College buckle with a CTC monogram and rusted finish; an oval brass-toned Marion Steam Shovel buckle featuring a relief depiction of an excavator; and a scalloped-edge buckle featuring a stag head over crossed rifles with a banner partially inscribed NATIONAL.
The Western-style hardware consists of a silver-toned shield-shaped accessory with gold-toned floral filigree, two engraved silver-toned collar tip protectors, and two rectangular slides or keepers. One slide features gold-toned scrollwork with rope-textured edges, while the other is silver-toned with engraved scrollwork. Also included is an oval metal flask or oiler with a long, threaded spout.
Condition report:
The postcard box shows visible shelf wear, including rubbing and scuffing to the edges and corners, while the interior cards appear unused. The metal items exhibit varied conditions. The Chicago Technical College and stag buckles show heavy oxidation, rust, and green verdigris patina. The Western-style hardware shows minor surface wear and thinning to the plated finishes. The metal flask is heavily pitted with significant surface oxidation. All items are sold as-found.
