Gun Collectors Dream Auction #83 May 2nd & 3rd TWO DAYS - NO RESERVES - 1200 LOTS!
Lot 85:
Sold for: $100
Description
This lot consists of a collection of 4 single-cavity bullet molds designed for lead projectile casting, featuring three examples manufactured by Lyman and one by Ideal. Each tool is constructed with steel mold blocks and integrated sprue plates, mounted to tapered wooden handles secured by metal ferrules. Key markings include the manufacturer name Lyman on three units, with one additionally marked with the letter S and the numbers 113 and 223, and another marked with the number 358. The fourth mold is stamped Ideal Middlefield Conn. U.S.A. and includes the numbers 311413 and 410. These tools are designed for casting specific caliber projectiles and show evidence of historical use. The wooden handles exhibit a smooth finish with some wear and discoloration consistent with age.
Condition report:
The steel components on all four molds show significant surface oxidation and a dark patina. The sprue plates are intact and appear to move freely on their pivots. The wooden handles show typical wear, minor dings, and staining from use, while the metal ferrules exhibit tarnish and light surface rust. The internal mold cavities appear to be in good condition but would require cleaning before use. The mechanical actions of the handles and sprue plates appear to function correctly, though we have not function-tested these items for casting precision.
