Gun Collectors Dream Auction #84 June 13th & 14th
Lot 1212:
Sold for: $425
Description
This custom sporterized bolt action rifle is built on a Winchester-manufactured U.S. Model of 1917 receiver and is chambered in .270 Winchester. The rifle features a blued sporter-weight barrel installed by G.R. Douglas and is housed in a custom wood stock with a Monte Carlo comb, a raised cheekpiece, and contrast-colored forend and pistol grip caps with white spacers. Key markings include the receiver ring designation U.S. MODEL OF 1917 WINCHESTER, which is partially obscured by mounting holes for the scope base, and the serial number 17810. The barrel is clearly marked G R DOUGLAS and 270 WCF. The firearm is equipped with a Burris 3.5-10x Fullfield scope, marked MADE IN U.S.A., which includes rubber lens covers and is mounted on a two-piece base. Additional appointments include a padded leather sling and a Pachmayr WHITE LINE rubber recoil pad. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The blued finish on the barrel and receiver shows moderate thinning and some surface scuffs consistent with field use. The bore is bright with strong rifling throughout. The action appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested the firearm for safety or accuracy. The custom wood stock exhibits several scratches and handling marks, particularly on the left side and near the toe. The rubber recoil pad shows significant age-related cracking and hardening. The scope optics appear clear with an intact duplex reticle.
