Description

This is a single pump-action shotgun chambered in 12 gauge, featuring a 27.5 inch barrel equipped with an adjustable Poly Choke device. The shotgun is built on the John Browning design and features a takedown receiver with a blued finish that displays operational wear and thinning, particularly on the magazine tube and receiver edges. The furniture consists of a checkered walnut stock and forend, which has been fitted with an aftermarket White Line ventilated rubber recoil pad. Key markings include Western Field Browning, TRADE MARK, MONTGOMERY WARD & COMPANY, and MODEL 30 on the left side of the receiver. The barrel is stamped BROWNING PATENT and 12 GA. PROOF TESTED. The serial number U 23182 is located on the lower tang, and a circled B proof mark is visible on the barrel lug. The Poly Choke is marked THE POLY CHOKE CO. HARTFORD, CONN. and features settings ranging from IMP. CYL. to FULL. This firearm is a classic examples of early 20th-century sporting arms sold through major mail-order retailers. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.

Condition report:

The metal surfaces retain a moderate amount of original blued finish with significant operational thinning on the magazine tube and high points of the receiver. There are scattered light scratches, handling marks, and areas of minor surface oxidation throughout. The wood stock and forend are in used condition, showing various dings, scratches, and compressed checkering consistent with field use. The bore is bright and appears free of pitting. The action appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm. The added recoil pad is intact but shows some compression and signs of age.
