Description

This is a J.C. Higgins Model 20 slide-action shotgun chambered for 12-gauge shells with a 2 3/4-inch chamber. This utility-grade firearm is configured for field use, featuring a 28-inch barrel with a fixed full choke. The metal surfaces exhibit a blued finish that has significantly thinned over time, transitioning to a pervasive brown patina with light surface oxidation visible around the ejection port and on the barrel. The furniture consists of a smooth walnut buttstock and a vertically grooved wooden pump forend, both showing a warm color and numerous handling marks. The sighting system is a traditional single brass bead mounted at the muzzle. The stock has been fitted with an aftermarket black rubber recoil pad marked FAJEN. Verbatim barrel markings include J.C. HIGGINS MODEL 20-12 GA. SEARS, ROEBUCK AND CO. 583.2002 and PROOF TESTED-12 GA-FULL 2 3/4″ CHAMBER. No serial number was visible for transcription. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.

Condition report:

The blued finish is heavily worn and thinned, having largely transitioned to a brown patina with silvering at the high points and scattered light oxidation. The bore was not inspected. The slide action appears to function correctly when cycled manually, though the firearm has not been function-tested with live ammunition. The walnut stock and forend are structurally sound but show typical field wear including dings, surface scratches, and thinning of the original finish. The aftermarket recoil pad remains pliable but shows light wear and age.
