Description
This Remington Sportsman-58 is a gas-operated semi-automatic shotgun chambered for 12 gauge 2 3/4-inch or shorter shells, featuring a 26-inch barrel with a fixed improved cylinder choke. The barrel markings include the manufacturer name and location transcribed as REMINGTON ARMS CO. INC. ILION N.Y. MADE IN U.S.A. along with patent numbers 2,645,873-2,675,638. Further barrel markings specify the chambering as 12 GA. FOR 2 3/4 OR SHORTER SHELLS and the choke as IMP CYL. The left side of the receiver is roll-stamped with the model designation Remington Sportsman-58 and the serial number 67143 V. The receiver features engraved game scenes on both sides, with the right side depicting ducks in flight over a marsh and the left side showing hunting dogs and game birds. The metal components show a heavily worn blued finish that has transitioned to a brown patina with visible surface oxidation. The shotgun is fitted with a checkered walnut stock and forend, though a prominent crack is present on the right side of the foregrip. The pistol grip is capped with a decorative black insert featuring a gold-toned ram’s head in relief, and the firearm is finished with a black synthetic Remington-branded buttplate. A single bead front sight is mounted at the muzzle. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The shotgun is in fair to used condition overall. The metal finish shows significant wear and has largely aged to a mottled brown patina with scattered surface oxidation and light freckling on the barrel and receiver. The bore is bright but shows some evidence of use and light frosting. The action appears to function correctly, though the firearm has not been function-tested with live ammunition. The walnut furniture exhibits numerous dings, scratches, and thinning of the varnish consistent with age and field use. A visible longitudinal crack is present on the right side of the forend. The checkering is worn but remains visible. The synthetic buttplate and decorative grip cap show typical scuffing.
