Lot 1422:
Sold for: $275
Description
This is a J.C. Higgins Model 36 semi-automatic rifle chambered for .22 Long Rifle, originally retailed through Sears, Roebuck and Co. The rifle is configured with an under-barrel tubular magazine and features an approximately 24 inch blued steel barrel paired with a black-finished receiver. The furniture consists of a one-piece wood stock featuring a semi-pistol grip and a smooth forend, which ends in a black composite buttplate embossed with the J.C. Higgins shield logo. The firearm is equipped with a factory-mounted J.C. Higgins M36 small-diameter scope on a receiver-integrated rail, along with a ramped front blade and an adjustable rear notch sight. Prominent markings on the left side of the barrel include J.C. HIGGINS – MODEL 36 – PAT. NO 2552429 and SEARS, ROEBUCK AND CO. 583.81. Additional markings on the barrel specify CHAMBERED FOR .22 L.R. ONLY. No serial number is visible on the external surfaces of the receiver or barrel. The action appears to function correctly through manual cycling, although the firearm has not been live-fire tested. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The rifle is in good used condition. The blued finish on the barrel and magazine tube shows thinning near the muzzle and light handling marks throughout. The receiver\'s black finish exhibits minor surface scratches and some wear on the edges. The wood stock remains solid with no cracks, though it displays several scattered dings, minor impressions, and light scratches consistent with field use. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. The optics on the J.C. Higgins scope appear clear, though the mechanical adjustments have not been tested. All sights are present and securely attached.
