Description

This single-shot, break-action shotgun manufactured by J. Stevens Arms features a 30-inch barrel and an external hammer design. The firearm is equipped with a top-release lever and a single brass bead front sight. The metal surfaces exhibit a dark, faded blued finish on the barrel and a mottled brown patina across the receiver, with evidence of light surface pitting and oxidation throughout. The furniture consists of a two-piece smooth wood stock and forend which show scattered handling marks, scratches, and dings consistent with field use. The stock is completed with a checkered black composition buttplate featuring the STEVENS name and a stylized S logo. Key markings transcribed verbatim include the receiver’s left side stamped with TRADE MARK / STEVENS / REG. U.S. PAT. OFF. & FGN. and the top of the barrel marked PATENTED AUGUST 12, 1913. No specific gauge marking is visible in the provided images. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.

Condition report:

The barrel retains a significant amount of its dark bluing, though it is fading and shows areas of light oxidation and minor surface pitting. The receiver has transitioned to a mottled brown patina with scattered oxidation and light pitting. The bore shows some darkness and light frosting consistent with age but remains in serviceable condition. The action appears to function correctly with a solid lockup, and the top-release lever operates smoothly. The wood components are in fair to good condition, displaying numerous superficial scratches, indentations, and handling wear but no major cracks are visible. The buttplate shows light wear to the checkering. We have not function-tested this firearm.
