Gun Collectors Dream Auction #84 June 13th & 14th
Lot 1557:
Sold for: $130
Description
This Iver Johnson Safety Automatic is a top-break, double-action revolver chambered in .32 caliber. The firearm is equipped with an approximately 3-inch barrel and a five-shot fluted cylinder. The metal surfaces show a blued finish that has significantly thinned and transitioned into a mottled brown and grey patina with scattered surface oxidation and light pitting throughout. The furniture consists of checkered black hard rubber grips featuring the trademark owl’s head logo at the top of each panel, though the left grip panel is broken at the top, which exposes the internal mainspring. Sighting is provided by a fixed blade front sight and a notch rear sight integrated into the barrel latch. Key markings include the barrel rib transcription IVER JOHNSON’S ARMS & CYCLE WORKS over FITCHBURG MASS. U.S.A. and the serial number 18942 stamped on the trigger guard. The bottom of the grip frame is marked with patent information reading JUNE 16. 96. AUG 25. 96 / T 16. C 4 PATS PENDING. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The revolver is in fair to good condition, showing significant historical wear and use. The original blued finish has largely thinned and transitioned to a brown and grey patina with areas of surface oxidation and light pitting, most notably on the cylinder and frame. The action appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested this firearm for safety or timing. The right grip panel remains intact with sharp checkering, while the left grip panel is broken at the top.
