Description
This Colt Police Positive is a classic double action revolver chambered in .38 S&W, a configuration widely utilized by law enforcement in the early 20th century. The firearm features a 5 inch barrel with a fixed blade front sight and a notched rear sight integrated into the top strap. It is equipped with a six-shot swing-out cylinder and a traditional blued finish. The furniture consists of two-piece checkered black hard rubber grips featuring the Colt logo embossed at the top. Key markings include the model and caliber designation on the left side of the barrel as COLT POLICE POSITIVE .38 and the manufacturer address and patent dates on the top of the barrel reading COLT’S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A. PAT’D AUG. 5 1884 JUNE 5 1900 JULY 4 1905. The serial number 102060 is clearly stamped on the frame and crane with a 2 located just below it. The left side of the frame is engraved with the rampant Colt logo, and a VP within a triangle proof mark is stamped on the left side of the trigger guard. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The revolver retains a modest amount of its original blued finish, now exhibiting significant thinning, holster wear, and a transition to a greyish patina on the barrel, cylinder, and grip straps. There are scattered areas of light surface oxidation and minor pitting present on the metal surfaces. The bore was not inspected. The action appears to function correctly with good timing and lockup, although we have not function-tested this firearm. The checkered black hard rubber grips are in good overall condition, showing typical handling marks and some softening of the checkering from use.
