Gun Collectors Dream Auction #84 June 13th & 14th
Lot 352:
Sold for: $40
Description
This lot consists of 90 pieces of .222 Remington ammunition and cartridge cases, including factory loads, fired brass, and remanufactured .222 Rem ammunition. The collection is housed in two plastic storage containers. The first container is a green plastic box holding 39 items with assorted headstamps identifying production from multiple manufacturers. Verbatim markings on the case heads include W-W SUPER 222 REM, REM-UMC 222 REM, and R-P 222 REM, representing Winchester-Western, Remington-UMC, and Remington-Peters. Some primers within this container show firing pin indentations consistent with once-fired brass, while others appear unfired. A multi-lingual load information card is present in the green box lid. The second container is a translucent blue plastic box containing 51 cartridges fitted with copper-jacketed Sierra soft point bullets. Mirrored handwritten load data on the interior of the blue lid suggests these are handloaded rounds utilizing 31.3 grains of H332 powder and 50-grain Sierra bullets. The brass cases throughout the lot show typical surface tarnish and light oxidation consistent with age.
Condition report:
The brass cartridge cases show a naturally aged patina with light to moderate tarnish and scattered spots of surface oxidation. Several lead tips on the soft point bullets in the blue box exhibit minor impact deformation. The plastic storage boxes show light wear and superficial scratches, with legible handwritten markings on the interior lid of the blue container. Fired cases show clear primer indentations. This lot is sold as a collection of reloading components and historical reference material; for safety reasons, we do not recommend firing handloaded or remanufactured ammunition of unknown origin.
