Gun Collectors Dream Auction #84 June 13th & 14th
Lot 393:
Sold for: $250
Description
This Springfield Model 745B is a 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun manufactured by the Savage Arms Corporation. Utilizing a recoil-operated action based on the Browning Auto-5 pattern, this firearm is equipped with a 27.5 inch barrel proof tested for 2 3/4 inch chambers. The barrel retains a blued finish, while the lightweight alloy receiver exhibits an aged plum or purple-toned finish characteristic of certain older anodizing processes. The receiver features roll-engraved game scenes depicting birds and foliage on both sides. The shotgun is fitted with a smooth wood buttstock and a matching forend; notably, the forend is cracked longitudinally and has been stabilized with a crude field repair consisting of a copper band secured with brass screws. Aiming is accomplished via a single brass bead sight at the muzzle, and a brown Pachmayr Gun Works rubber recoil pad has been fitted to the butt. Key markings include the model designation SPRINGFIELD 745B on the left side of the receiver. Barrel markings specify SAVAGE ARMS CORPORATION CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS. U.S.A. and PROOF TESTED 12 GAUGE / 2 3/4 INCH CHAMBER. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The receiver shows significant finish aging and color shift to a plum hue, along with numerous scratches and handling marks. The barrel finish is thinning with scattered surface wear and silvering at the muzzle. The bore is bright with minor fouling noted. The wood furniture shows moderate wear with various indentations and scratches; the forend is severely cracked with a visible copper repair band. The action has not been function-tested, though the bolt appears to move freely. The Pachmayr recoil pad shows age-related wear.
