Lot 551:
Sold for: $90
Description
The Benjamin Model 300 is a single-shot multi-pump pneumatic air rifle designed for target shooting and small-game control. This example features a brass-finished barrel and receiver assembly that has developed a heavy, aged patina with significant surface wear and scattered areas of green oxidation. The air rifle utilizes a muzzle-mounted pull-knob pump mechanism to pressurize the internal reservoir. It is equipped with a one-piece wood stock that shows significant signs of use, including numerous dings, scratches, and areas of finish loss. The rifle is fitted with a fixed front blade sight and a notched rear sight. Verbatim markings found on the rear of the receiver include a circular stamp reading BENJAMIN AIR RIFLE CO ST LOUIS U S A, NO 300, SUPER SINGLE SHOT, and PATENTED. The side of the receiver is engraved with BENJAMIN FRANKLIN and the operational instruction COCK HAMMER TO RELEASE SAFETY. Near the muzzle, a small aperture is marked AIR HOLE DONT OIL. Note – As an antique or black powder firearm, this item does not require a background check.
Condition report:
The air rifle is in well-worn condition. The brass metal surfaces exhibit a dark, aged patina with visible surface scratches and areas of verdigris. The wood stock is structurally sound but shows significant cosmetic wear with numerous indentations, scratches, and large patches of finish loss. The bore was not inspected. The pump mechanism and internal seals have not been function-tested; while the action appears to cycle, the ability of the reservoir to hold pressure has not been verified.
