Description
This Steyr-Mannlicher Model 1895 is a straight-pull bolt-action infantry rifle rechambered for the 8x56mmR cartridge. Designed for the Austro-Hungarian military, this example features the standard long rifle configuration with a 30-inch barrel, an internal box magazine fed by en-bloc clips, and the characteristic straight-pull action with a dual-lug rotating bolt head. The rifle is fitted with a full-length wood stock featuring a straight wrist, two barrel bands, and a combination muzzle cap and stacking rod. Hardware includes side and bottom-mounted sling swivels and a graduated ladder rear sight paired with a fixed blade front sight. Key markings include the Hungarian coat of arms over M.95 on the receiver bridge, and the left side of the receiver is marked BUDAPEST 1909. A large letter S is stamped on the barrel shank, indicating the conversion to the 8x56mmR S-patrone cartridge. The serial number D 10969 is stamped on the left side of the barrel and receiver, with the number 10969 repeated on the right side of the buttstock. Additional markings include a 20 D stamp on the left side of the forestock and a small K on the buttplate. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal finish shows significant thinning and wear throughout, with much of the original bluing transitioning to a mottled gray and brown patina. Areas of light surface oxidation and minor pitting are visible, particularly on the muzzle, receiver, and bolt. The wood stock remains structurally sound but exhibits heavy service wear with numerous dings, scratches, and compression marks. The action appears to function correctly, though we have not function-tested or live-fire tested this firearm. The bore was not inspected.
