Lot 13:
Lake City Lot AYR 192 Round Sealed Spam Can of .30-06 AP-M2 Ammunition
Sold for: $600
Description
This lot features a single hermetically sealed 192 round spam can of .30-06 Springfield AP-M2 ammunition produced by the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. The cartridges are armor-piercing variants with the M2 designation, loaded into twenty-four 8-round en bloc clips and organized within cloth bandoleers for use with the M1 Garand rifle. The rectangular metal container is finished in an olive drab green paint with yellow stenciled markings. Markings on the front face are transcribed verbatim as DO NOT USE AS FOOD CONTAINER within a border at the top, followed by 192 CARTRIDGES, CAL .30 AP-M2, 8 RD CLIPS, and BANDOLEERS. The lower section specifies LOT AYR 7. The top of the can features an incised NB mark, a folding wire bail handle, and an original T-handle key opener attached to the lid. The container remains factory sealed to ensure the long-term preservation of the ammunition.
Condition report:
The ammunition container is in good, factory-sealed condition. The exterior olive drab green finish exhibits moderate surface wear, including scattered scratches and paint loss exposing bare metal, particularly along the edges and corners. The yellow stenciled markings remain clear and highly legible. No significant rust or structural damage to the can is observed. As the container is hermetically sealed, the internal cartridges, clips, and bandoleers have not been visually inspected but are presumed to be in as-issued, live condition.
