Lot 141:
Sold for: $450
Description
This is a Japanese Type 99 Arisaka bolt action rifle manufactured at the Nagoya Arsenal and chambered in 7.7x58mm. The rifle features a 25.9 inch barrel fitted with a hooded front sight and a folding ladder rear sight that retains its anti-aircraft wings. The receiver displays a blued finish while the bolt and other small parts show a darker patina. The firearm is mounted in a standard two-piece wooden stock with a side-mounted sling swivel and a steel buttplate. Verbatim markings on the receiver include the three kanji characters 九九式 identifying it as a Type 99, located below a defaced imperial chrysanthemum and a single gas vent hole. The left side of the receiver is marked with a series character, the serial number 60894, and the Nagoya Arsenal symbol. This specimen is missing its cleaning rod and the wire monopod, though the mounting block for the monopod remains present on the rear barrel band. The action appears to function correctly, however, we have not function-tested this firearm. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal surfaces show thinning of the original blued finish with scattered light surface oxidation and minor pitting consistent with age. The wooden stock is in good overall condition, showing various dings, scratches, and handling marks from military service, but it remains structurally sound. The bore is bright with well-defined rifling. The bolt cycles smoothly and the anti-aircraft wings on the rear sight operate as intended.
