Lot 423:
Sold for: $400
Description
This is a Japanese Arisaka Type 99 bolt-action short rifle chambered in 7.7x58mm, manufactured at the Nagoya Arsenal. This specimen represents the Substitute Standard or Last Ditch configuration produced during the final stages of World War II, characterized by simplified features for rapid manufacture. The rifle features a round barrel with a simplified front sight and a fixed rear peep sight. The receiver shows where the Imperial Chrysanthemum has been ground off, a common practice for surrendered Japanese small arms. The furniture consists of a two-piece wooden stock with a simplified wooden buttplate held in place by three nails. Key markings on the left side of the receiver include a series mark, the serial number 47442, and the Nagoya Arsenal symbol. The rifle is missing its cleaning rod. The action appears to function correctly, though the firearm has not been function-tested. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The blued metal finish shows significant wear and thinning throughout, having turned to a dark brown patina with areas of surface oxidation and light pitting, particularly around the receiver and barrel bands. The bore was not inspected. The two-piece wooden stock remains solid but exhibits numerous dings, scratches, and small gouges consistent with field use and age. The wooden buttplate shows heavy wear. The bolt operates smoothly, and the trigger mechanism is functional.
