Description

This is a French Model 1907-15 Berthier bolt action rifle manufactured by Remington Arms under contract for the French government during the World War I period, chambered for the 8mm Lebel cartridge. The rifle features a blued barrel and receiver with the bolt assembly left in the white. The original full-length walnut stock has been sporterized, resulting in a shortened forend and the complete removal of the upper handguard. It has been fitted with an aftermarket King brand rear aperture sight on the receiver bridge while retaining a standard front blade sight. The original steel buttplate is missing and has been replaced with a crude, built-up pad composed of layered leather or composite materials secured with numerous nails and showing remnants of an orange-colored coating. Verbatim markings include Remington Mle 1907-15 in script on the left side of the receiver and RAC 1907-15 with a small P proof mark on the right side of the receiver. The rifle is missing its original barrel bands and handguard, and the internal magazine is currently empty and does not include a charger clip. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.

Condition report:

The metal surfaces retain a fair amount of original bluing which shows moderate thinning, scratches, and areas of light surface oxidation and freckling, particularly on the barrel. The bolt assembly shows scattered staining and oxidation. The bore was not inspected. The action appears to function correctly, although the firearm has not been live-fire tested. The wood stock is in fair condition with numerous nicks, dings, and surface scratches throughout, and it has been significantly modified at the forend and butt. The improvised butt pad is in poor, deteriorated condition.
