Description
One Swedish Model 1896 Mauser bayonet and matching scabbard manufactured by Eskilstuna Jernmanufaktur AB. The edged weapon features a double-edged steel blade with a central fuller and a characteristic conical tip. The hilt is constructed entirely of steel, featuring a tubular handle with a cross-hatched knurled grip. The crossguard is equipped with a muzzle ring and short quillon, while the pommel retains a functional spring-loaded locking mechanism. The obverse ricasso is stamped with the maker mark E J A B surrounding a crowned anchor. The reverse ricasso features a small crown proof mark above the vertically stacked digits 0 3 2. The accompanying blued steel scabbard includes a longitudinal groove, a frog stud, and a round ball finial.
Condition report:
The bayonet and scabbard are in good, service-used condition. The blade retains much of its original bright finish with scattered areas of surface oxidation, dark staining, and light runner marks from scabbard draw. The steel hilt displays a dark grey patina with light surface oxidation and minor pitting consistent with age. The locking mechanism appears functional. The scabbard shows significant wear to the original finish with a dark patina and scattered spots of surface corrosion and minor pitting. No significant dents are observed.
