Description
This bolt action sporting rifle is built on a Winchester manufactured U.S. Model of 1917 receiver and is chambered in .30-06 Springfield. The firearm features a 26 inch barrel with a blued finish that shows thinning and wear from use. The rifle has been sporterized with a walnut Bishop stock featuring a Monte Carlo comb, a left side cheekpiece, and a checkered buttplate with white line spacers. The pistol grip and forend tip also feature matching black caps with white spacers. The military iron sights have been removed, and the receiver is now fitted with a Buehler Orinda, California scope base and a Weaver K2.5 60-B scope with a simple crosshair reticle. The bolt handle has been reshaped to clear the optic. Key markings include the receiver ring stamped U.S. MODEL OF 1917 WINCHESTER and the serial number 79393. The barrel is marked near the muzzle with a W above an ordnance bomb and the date 12-17. Various proof marks, including an eagle head, are present on the left side of the receiver. The original military rear sight assembly and its mounting ears have been removed. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The blued finish on the receiver and barrel shows moderate thinning and wear, particularly on the edges and high points. The bolt handle shows wear to the finish where it was modified for scope clearance. The walnut stock is in good overall condition with some scattered dings and scratches consistent with field use. The action appears to function correctly, though it has not been live-fire tested. The scope optics are clear, though the exterior housing shows minor surface scratches. The military rear sight ears have been removed to facilitate the scope mount.
