Description
This is a British Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) No. 1 Mk III* bolt action rifle chambered in .303 British. The rifle is configured with a standard 25.2-inch barrel featuring a hooded front post sight and a tangent rear sight with protective ears. The metal components exhibit a dark, aged blued finish showing areas of wear and thinning throughout. The furniture consists of a full-length wooden stock with a semi-pistol grip and a brass buttplate equipped with a hinged trapdoor for storage of a cleaning kit. Key markings include the wrist of the receiver stamped with a crown over the characters G.R., followed by ENFIELD / 1917 and SHT LE / III*. The receiver ring is stamped with the serial number R / 307. Various British proof marks and inspection stamps are visible on the receiver and barrel. The rifle includes a single 10-round detachable box magazine. Note – All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition report:
The metal surfaces retain a fair amount of their dark blued finish, which shows age-related thinning and wear, particularly on the sharp edges and the bolt handle. The wooden stock and handguards show numerous small dings, impact marks, and scratches consistent with service use, including a small longitudinal crack on the upper handguard near the rear sight. The brass buttplate is tarnished but intact. The action appears to function correctly when cycled manually, though we have not function-tested this firearm. The bore was not inspected.
